Drew Townson: Who The Heck Is This Guy Anyway?

"Drew knows how to walk-the-walk in this business," David Minehan, Musician, Recording Artist, Producer/Proprieter of Woolly Mammoth Sound.

Drew pushin' faders at Newbury Sound, Boston, 1990. Nice Hair, Dude!     Blog: Drew-Who.com

Hi. I’m Drew Townson, and over the years I’ve had many a stage-name. Some of you know me as Gearhunter or Drewcifer from the Pro Audio Forums. I’ve also employed aliases like The Flying Scotsman, Marshall Tullamore, and even Pale Rider. (My wife prefers to call me Fathead, so there you go!) I’m a veteran recording engineer/producer with 25 years under my belt. I never became a world-famous producer, but I’ve done over 70 CDs and pretty much lived in studios for most of my life, specializing in guitar-oriented rock and roots. I’ve even built two studios for myself; one in my house and one in a commercial space. So, yeah, I know what I’m doing with the studio and the gear. I also do a little writing for 'zines like Tape-Op.

As some of you already know, I’ve worked for a couple or three of the better-known Pro Audio firms around here, helping clients acquire everything from pre-owned SSL consoles to swag T-Shirts. So, yes, I know the selling end of it too. After a decade of helping my employers own German Sports Cars, I’ve decided to go out on my own. As a one-man shop, there’ll be less hassle for you, my valued client. Price-wise, I can be competitive because I don’t have huge overhead to pay for.

My clients will tell you, they always come first. I always do my best to put myself in the customer’s place. Being a real engineer and studio owner, I AM in your place! You are the client and I am YOUR advocate. I am always on your side. (And I hate sales-weasels as much as you do!)
You should also know that you can email me any time with recording questions or issues, NO STRINGS ATTACHED. Many of you are just getting started, and my knowledge-base just might be helpful to you. I have taught pro audio on the college level, and I still love to talk recording.

The Analog Planet is a small orb, dedicated to staying niche-y and boutique-y (and a little funky). So I’m not going to try to be all things to all people, and I’ll try to avoid offering all the same stuff everybody else does. As the name implies, Analog Planet deals in primarily analog audio gear. Even in the DAW world, everybody needs a good mic and a good mic preamp and a good pair of speakers. So I’ve selected a handful of cool gear to cover those bases, along with a few interesting guitar tools, as well as tape and tubes and cables. Most people still need cables, right? I’ll bet you could use a couple right now, in fact.

What’s most important to know is that I only sell stuff I like, I believe in, and that I myself use.

Having said that, they don’t call me Gearhunter for nothing. If there’s a piece of gear you need, new or used, chances are good I can score it for you at a competitive price. So call me, EVEN IF YOU DON’T FIND THE ITEM ON OUR WEB-SITE!

Partial Discography (Astonishingly there's another Drew Townson who has assisted on some easy-listening CDs. His name has been mixed up wih mine and a few of his credits are in there). drew-who (Better list-of-credits at bottom of page)
