Miles Davis Would Be 90 Years Old Today

Miles Davis would be 90 years old today. Hard to believe, considering that his music is still beyond the comprehension of most people's ears (not yours or mine of course).

So to celebrate one of the great jazz musicians of all time, Sony, Davis's label of record, and record label celebrates with an interactive website The Universe of Miles Davis that demonstrates how Miles Davis's reach extended and extends to this day well beyond music.

Warning: it is a multimedia platform that you might end up staying on throughout the Memorial Day Weekend!

Or, as Sony puts it:

Miles Davis, international musical icon and cultural archetype, would have turned 90 years old on May 26, 2016. To commemorate Miles’ 90th, Legacy Recordings (the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment) and Polygraph (a publication for thoughtful, data-driven storytelling) is launching The Universe of Miles Davis , an immersive destination website visualizing the astounding ongoing cultural impact and importance of Miles Davis.

Built from data collated from the approximately 2,210 Wikipedia pages mentioning the artist, The Universe of Miles Davis uses stunning visuals and animation to construct charts, graphs and interactive models illustrating that Miles Davis’ larger-than-life impact extends beyond music into the worlds of fashion, film, politics, fine art, popular culture, social media and more.

An innovative 21st century interactive platform, The Universe of Miles Davis is as revolutionary as the artist and genius it celebrates.

And yes, Analogplanet owes its readers reviews of many Miles reissues.

The music lives on. How cool is this "The Universe of Miles Davis" site too. And yes Michael, you do us some more Miles reviews ;-) just sayin'. My first Miles show was when he came out of hiding for The Man with the Horn tour in 81. Went with my Dad. Loved it. A few years later I convinced my wife to allow for my son to be named MYLES. She had said okay, but only agreed if Y was used in the spelling. Must be one of the reasons we got divorced :-)

What a great artist, have a Dragon recording of him and Coltrane, pure mono magic. I do though wonder sometimes, what would have been had Clifford Brown not died so young, maybe things might have been different.

and I imagine he would have been cooler than ever!

Miles would have put out a "Duets" album, feat. Elton, Bono, Gaga ...

I'm sure I have more Miles LPs than anyone else's, even The Fabs. The latest is the EU-pressed 8LP version of Miles at Newport, which should be interesting:
