Sontronics' new Delta Active Ribbon mic stands in a class by itself. Despite the name, there is nothing muddy about this high-output ribbonator. This baby delivers a supple mid with that big velvety throat that you expect from a classic ribbon. The thing we really found pleasing about the Delta is that it is not lacking in highs. This is NOT a dark ribbon (ala vintage ancestors RCA or Coles). Delt's high-end is glassy and smooth; never harsh. You can make it shimmer! And the mic can take whaterever you can throw at it, making it our new choice for electric guitar and drums (kick, room, overheads). Try it on vocals too! Delta stands up to much more expensive ribbons like Royer and AEA. Frankly, We think it's as good as the Royer 122 active, which is DOUBLE the price.
