Way back in 1994 (that's 22 years ago for those of you who forget how quickly time flies by) I was a guest on Gil Gross's radio talk show on the now defunct CBS Radio Network. Gil's show was mostly about politics but he made some room for other topics and on July, 29th, 1994 he had me in the studio for an hour-long show called "CDs vs. LPs: which is better?" Can you guess where I came down here?.

"Classic Album Sundays", the vinyl-oriented listening event founded by Colleen "Cosmo" Murphy is part of the New York Audio Show. Murphy's events, which started in the UK and are now occurring around the world, attract music fans to a venue where they hear a full album on vinyl through a good audio system. During the event, cell-phones must be turned off and talking is discouraged. Since most of the attendees have never heard a good audio rig, most sit, mouth agape, unable to talk anyway!

Let's get directly to the point: the packaging of this almost $100 set is inversely proportional to the sound quality. The packaging is deluxe.

Exhibitors at The Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and at RMAF have been using reel to reel tape as source material. Some use Tape Project tapes, which we know are copies of copies of actual master tapes licensed by and supplied by the record labels. Yarlung is also doing this.

With half the Denver Tech Center Marriott closed for renovations and the other half newly renovated, the audio industry approached RMAF 2016 with caution and some cancellations. Nonetheless, industry participation was strong and most were satisfied with their rooms—at least for this transitional year.

“Too expensive to record to analog tape” we often hear from major label representatives, from producers and from artists. And there are those who don’t think the sonics are better or as good as ProTools.

This morning the Los Angeles Audio Show scheduled for June 8th-10th at the Hilton Irvine Hotel was suddenly and without warning cancelled via a somewhat bizarre email show organizer Marine de Rogez-Presson sent to participants.

Alto saxophonist Paul Desmond (Paul Emil Breitenfeld) best known for his work with Dave Brubeck made solo albums of greater musical consequence than his string-accented confection, including his duet album Two of A Mind (RCA LSP-2624) with Gerry Mulligan, also on RCA-Victor. Nonetheless, this album pleases every play.
