David Bowie: The Man Who Changed the World

Tomorrow's Analogplanet radio show will be all-Bowie.

In the meantime I posted this video of "The Man Who Saved the World" playback. For some reason this track took more of a sonic "hit" than some others posted to YouTube.

Random question: is the top of the plinth removed so you can fit the SAT arm or is that what the table looks like from that angle?

A new one had to be fabricated to accommodate the new arm. It just arrived and will be installed ASAP.

Just finished the Gene Clark, great show lots of info on a artist I knew of, but very little of his story outside of The Birds. Am really looking forward to tomorrow's show. These really make the site special, personal, not just information.

As far as David's death affecting you more than John's - that's a personal thing and I respect that. However, have to disagree with your comments comparing John and Davids death and their creativity at the time of death. John was 40 and at the start of a comeback. So who really knows? Bowie, in my opinion, was WAY past his creative peak, which was in the 70's. BTW, in his Berkeley speech, Bowie called John his "mentor". Wish you had not brought up these feelings - but still like your show and what you have done with vinyl. Carry on!

Opinions based upon personal feelings and so I was just honestly expressing how I felt. I do it again on the show... Yes, of course John was a mentor to Bowie (among others)..... and of course I remain a big Lennon fan. One of the greatest. I was just trying to explain to myself why I was feeling as I was and still am and sharing it.

I was too deeply saddened by Bowie's passing. I wasn't old enough (9) to have been very moved by Lennon's death. And I will say, the when McCartney goes I won't be socked in the gut like I was with Bowie. His music has been blah for so long as I can remember and as person he doesn't move me much. Again, opinions for whatever those are worth. It's interesting to see how some musicians manage to stay artistically relevant, Petty, Gabriel to name a few while other like Elton John, McCartney have pumped out crap for so long I can't remember when they had a good album.

I think it's time that Rabbi Mikey had a contest where the winner gets a USB filled with 24/192 rips of his favorite pressings of The Bowie Catalog.

One of those "I remember when" moments.

Hi Michael,

Just checking to see if this is the Japanese repress you used in your comparison a few weeks ago?

RIP Mr. Bowie.

I was devastated when I heard that David Bowie died. I didn't even know how it could be possible? Was he really just a mortal after all? I've been listening to his music all week while I was waiting for my Blackstar Pre Order. Actually my first thought on the Monday morning that he died was "I wonder if my Black star Lp will show up today" and about 5 minutes after that I heard that he had died. Wow what an unexpected thing to hear. I've read so many articles about him during the week and copied a lot of them plus some of the last pictures shot of him to put into the Lp jacket.
BTW: The new album is phenominal. What a present he left for his fans but it is sad especially with death being a big part of the album's concept and I'm sure it's his death he is singing about. For the person who said Bowie was way past his creative peak, which was in the 70's you really should visit some of his albums after the 70's. There is so much to offer in every album he made. Check out Outside, Earthling and Heathen for 2 amazing records that were made well past the 70's.
