It takes a rocker with "brass in pocket" to deliver a jazz album. It takes more than that to produce a great one, which is what Hynde does on Valve Bone Woe, the title of which was her trombonist brother's "beatnik haiku" response to hearing about the passing of Bob Brookmeyer. Hynde here is no jazz pretender.

Technics follows up on its successful re-entry into the turntable business (SL-1200 series, SP10R, SL1000R) with the SL1500C, a lower cost ($1199) direct drive turntable that features a version of the sophisticated coreless, single rotor direct drive motor used on its more costly turntables.

These solidly constructed units feature pull-out file cabinet style drawers, each capable of holding approximately 100 LPs. Senegalese group Orchestra Baobab's 2002 comeback album Specialist In All Styles makes its vinyl debut 18 years after its original release and 50 years after the group's founding. The album was the group's first release since 1982's Pirates Choice said to be a "holy grail" recording for fans of African music.
