Last year, we reviewed a fine 180g 3LP box set called Miles 55: The Prestige Recordings that focused on the recordings Miles Davis made that year for the Prestige label. As that box followed the previous year’s Miles 54: The Prestige Recordings 180g 4LP collection, it only seemed logical that we would get the next one in the series this year — and Craft Recordings has made sure of it by releasing the Miles 56: The Prestige Recordings 180g 4LP box set today, June 19, 2026. Read Mark Smotroff’s review to see if the Miles 56 box matches the excellence of its predecessors. . .

We be jammin’ now — 50 years on, that is. Fifty years ago this week, Bob Marley & The Wailers headlined a four-night residency at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, England, spanning June 15-18, 1976. The first-ever official release of 18 of the best tracks culled from those shows comprise the Roots, Rock, Reggae: Live at the Hammersmith Odeon 180g 2LP set that’s coming from Tuff Gong/Island/UMe on August 14, 2026. AP editor Mike Mettler sparks, er, shares all the details. . .

Continuing the sexy, soulful long-form song-cycle format of its predecessors while embracing fresh funky flavors of the day, Marvin Gaye’s 1976 LP I Want You has gone on to become quite revered over the years. And now, Tamla/UMe is feting I Want You with a 50th anniversary Vinylphyle 180g 1LP edition alongside a separate 180g 2LP rarities edition titled, naturally, I Want You 2. Stalwart British progressive sophisticates Gentle Giant decided to build an entire album around exploring the concept of “those who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones” — the result being their fifth studio album, In a Glass House, which was originally released in September 1973 via WWA. In recent years, the band has undertaken a fairly comprehensive, multiformat reissue campaign — and now it’s time for In a Glass House to get the catalog-revisit nod, as it will be released as a 180g LP on July 31, 2026, via Alucard. AP editor Mike Mettler smooths out all the details . . .

Both surviving members of The Beatles — Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney — have just released fine new solo albums that take different approaches toward reflecting on their respective long and winding careers. Ringo released his Long Long Road LP on April 24, 2026, while Sir Paul released The Boys of Dungeon Lane a little more than a month later on May 29, 2026. Read Mark Smotroff’s combo review (and AP editor Mike Mettler’s detailed footnotes) to see if either or both of these Fab Two LPs are worthy of purchase and repeat spins accordingly. . .

On any particular night, King Crimson founder/guitar iconoclast Robert Fripp’s penchant for playing music always leaned toward quote, “new whenever it is performed.” That M.O. was most definitely in place for the seven-man band’s four-night run at what was then called the Best Buy Theater in the heart of midtown Manhattan between September 18-21, 2014. A most aptly named 200g 2LP set on black vinyl, 2014 NYC (coming out on July 10, 2026), celebrates some of the best performances of that storied run. AP editor Mike Mettler — our resident KC fanatic who attended three of those four shows — shares all the details. . .

I’m sure most of us can recall the first time we heard the golden throat of Rochester, New York’s finest, Lou Gramm, sing a song that has now long since embedded into our collective consciousness — and it most likely came from his time as the frontman for Foreigner. AP editor Mike Mettler talks with Gramm about his newly released solo album Released, the art and science of sequencing album sides, and which Foreigner song he feels sounds best on vinyl, and why. . .
