The other day, after comparing two power conditioners that produced very different sonic results in my system, and writing a Stereophile review, I decided to conduct an experiment.

Since the sound was so different, could it be recorded? And might people visiting analogPlanet’s YouTube channel hear the differences?

—Sardinia, Italy, July 28th: Plymouth, Minnesota-based Audio Research introduced to its dealers and distributors at WOM (World of McIntosh) Convention its new lower priced Foundation line of tube electronics. The three pieces were on static display at the Munich High End Show, but here they played in a system with a pair of Sonus Faber Il Cremonese speakers.

Audio Research's long-promised "final statement" phono preamplifier has finally arrived, and its price is $3500 less than the originally rumored $10,000. That's a pleasant deviation from the audiophile norm, but at $6495, the Reference phono still boasts a steep ticket. That's more than twice the price of the $2495 PH3 SE, AR's previous best—a class sonic act itself.
