When Buffalo Springfield broke up, Neil Young set about building his solo career. The high-production work with Jack Nitzsche that had created classics like “Expecting to Fly” and “Broken Arrow” brought Neil back to the producer/keyboardist/orchestrator, who gained fame working with Phil Spector but the results on Young’s eponymous debut album were not as memorable. In fact, many critics and fans alike back in 1969 considered the album a disappointment and a misstep.
Not that many years ago Avid manufactured a very high end spring-suspended turntable and that was all. Today the U.K. based company has expanded its line of turntables and added a full complement of electronics, a speaker, a powered subwoofer and a few new intriguing tonearms including one that's of 3D printed titanium.
UK based Avid introduced at CES the new Ingenium line of turntables. The base price for the machined aluminum plinthed 'table is $1300. So equipped, it comes with an MDF platter and bearing used on the Avid Diva. $2300 with Project 9cc carbon fiber arm. There's a $3000 version with an SME M2-9 inch arm as well as a more expensive range that uses the Volvere's bearing and aluminum platter.
Designing a turntable (or pretty much anything) with no budgetary constraints is far easier than is designing one to a specific price point, especially a low one.

Friday at AXPONA appeared to be well attended. The event at the Westin O'Hare attracted a healthy demographic mix and excellent area dealer support —something last year's New York show failed to get, with most dealers preferring a parasitic show relationship.
AXPONA 2015 presents "AudioCon" Friday April 24th through Sunday April 26th at Chicago's Westin O'Hare Hotel. Analogplanet will be covering the show here and presenting seminars as well as tweeting (@analogplanet) breaking news.
AXPONA Audio Con is NOT WELCOME in Chicago and the city is not glad the show is here. What other conclusion can one draw upon landing at O'Hare and waiting to pick up one's luggage only to be confronted by the sign you see at the top of this story?
This year’s AXPONA Show was the best yet. It demonstrated that Chicago is a great place to hold a regional audio show—even if the city ignored it. It was well-attended by consumers and well-supported by local dealers and a wide sampling of manufacturers.
