Rhino originally released this material in 1999 as a 7 CD box set, but to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original Fun House release the label returned to the original tapes and Bernie Grundman cut lacquers directly from them for the original album and for the live concert LP. The outtakes are sourced from hi-res files. That's 21st century progress! The $399.98 15 180 gram LP plus two 7" 45 singles set is limited to 1970 copies and is scheduled for July 17th release.

Oscar, With Love, was released as a 3 CD set in 2015 to observe the 90th birthday of jazz piano legend Oscar Peterson (1925-2007). To honor her late husband, Kelly Peterson assembled some of the most celebrated jazz artists in the world to perform and record on the luminary's prized personal piano, then released the recordings as a deluxe collector's edition shortly before the 10-year anniversary of the celebrated pianist’s passing. Now, a deluxe limited edition 5-LP 180-gram box set, re-sequenced for vinyl, is slated to be released on February 21 in a two-piece box with a 40-page booklet.

The Big Analog Dog is coming to town!

And by that we don’t mean Garth Leerer or Ken Bowers from Musical Surroundings, importers of AMG turntables and Hana cartridges, two of our very favorite product lines in all the world of audio. Although they WILL be here.

Firemen work to douse fire. (Photo:Robert Bauer-ribsfitmedia)
On Thursday morning (February 6), the Banning, CA building housing Apollo/Transco Masters’ factory and storage space burned. By far the biggest of the world’s two lacquer master disc manufacturers, most of the world’s vinyl mastering facilities (especially smaller ones) relied upon Apollo/Transco blanks, as well as their cutting styli for Westrex cutting heads. Ruled a total loss, 82 firefighters battled the blaze’s toxic fumes; thankfully, there were no injuries (Banning is located in the Southern California desert, approximately 2.5 hours away from Los Angeles).

Sadly this is not April 1st, and this is not a joke. The Banning CA facility housing Apollo/Transco lacquer manufacturing burned today and is apparently a total loss. More than 80 firefighters fought the dangerous chemical-laden fire. I haven't had a chance to get into the story details but hopefully no one was seriously injured in the blaze.

The previous in-store event at Audio Advisors in West Palm Beach where I spun records in one room while in another, Wilson Audio Specialties' Peter McGrath demoed the WAMM Master Chronosonic Loudpseakers and Mat Weisfeld introduced the new VPI Avenger Direct Drive Turntable went so well, the store asked me back to do a turntable set-up seminar and I could not refuse.
