Ortofon celebrated its 100th anniversary September 28th and 29th, inviting approximately 60 of its sales and technology partners from around the world to a hotel in Maribo, Denmark and to its factory in nearby Nakskov.

AnalogPlanet editor Michael Fremer was invited to observe the celebration and to participate by presenting to the guests and company executives a ½ hour PowerPoint presentation outlining where the vinyl record and analog playback gear market has been for the past 30 or so years, and to where he thought it was headed in the future.

Ortofon just announced a new $999 2M moving magnet cartridge: the 2M Black LVB 250 in honor of Ludwig Von Beethoven's 250th birthday. More than just a re-badge, the 2M Black LVB 250 incorporates, among other enhancements, the nude Shibata stylus and boron cantilever found on the more costly MC Cadenza Black.

At Making Vinyl Hollywood, 2019 Austria-based PHONOCUT demonstrated a still in development all-analog based home vinyl cutting system that uses blank vinyl (not lacquer) discs. At 4:52 in the embedded video at the above link you can watch the compact system cut a record and learn more about it.

After more than a decade's absence, this fall Ortofon will re-introduce its original "A housing" SPU. This will be of interest only to owners of certain older style vintage arms designed specifically for this "short" housing SPU.
