Audio Alchemy's High Performance PPA-1 MM/MC Phono Preamplifier

Audio Alchemy was one of the premier “go to” budget priced audio companies of the late 1980’s through the 1990s, at which point it went out of business for reasons having little to do with the quality of its products.

What some people forget is that aside from producing reasonably priced, high performance gear, the company also issued some truly high tech products like the Digital Transmission Interface Pro32, which included an I2S interface that produced a low jitter connection between a transport the company also made that had an I2S output and DAC.

Mobile Fidelity Reissues Love's "Forever Changes" at 45rpm

One of the great albums of the 1960s—for me an essential album— gets the double 45rpm treatment from Mobile Fidelity. Rhino reissued this a few years ago mastered by Chris Bellman and Bernie Grundman Mastering from the original tape.

You can read that reissue's review here so it's not getting the full treatment again here.

The Monty Alexander Trio Live! at the Montreux Festival

Jamaican-born pianist Monty Alexander still tours at age seventy two. He was but thirty two when this live album was recorded at The Montreux Jazz Festival.

Alexander traffics in a crowd-pleasing, tuneful, dynamically vital, high-energy style comparable to the playing of Oscar Peterson or Ahmad Jamal among others. His playing can be one moment flamboyant and the next softly and delicately rendered, with stops in between for heart-felt gospel.

AnalogPlanet Radio’s WDFU HD2 “Dreams” Radio Show Now Streams Here

This week’s show features songs about dreams. Unbelievably, the library does not contain either “Sweet Dreams” by The Eurythmics or “Dream Weaver” by Gary Wright. While “Dream” by The Everly Brothers was supposed to be included, an editing error omitted it as you’ll hear. Due to time issues, there are a few more than usual digital clips for which I apologize.

"Heigh Ho"—Blake Mills Goes to Work

Though he's but thirty years old, guitarist, record producer, studio session and touring band member Blake Mills has had already had a dizzying career. He's toured with Jenny Lewis and Band of Horses and Lucinda Williams. He's done session work for Norah Jones, Weezer, The Avett Brothers and Andrew Bird among many others and he produced Alabama Shakes' Sound & Color for which he received a producer of the year, non-classical, Grammy nomination.
