Fairfax, VA, October 25, 2017—Furnace Record Pressing will open a new long-planned record pressing plant this January in Fairfax, VA that will create more than 40 new jobs in what the company says will be an "environmentally friendly" facility.

Luaka Bop releases March 26th this sensational collaboration between this collaboration between Sam Shepherd (Floating Points) and Pharoah Sanders with the London Symphony Orchestra. It's a sonically spectacular, musically beguiling continuous piece of music in nine movements for saxophone, strings, keyboards and electronics composed by Sam Shepherd. Lacquers cut by Chris Bellman, pressed at RTI, the sonics are enveloping, the music in and out of the world.

Gabriel's new album is Up in name only: the album--his first in a decade (aside from some instrumental soundtracks)--is yet another exploration into life's mysteries and the dark places of Gabriel's mind. If truth-in-packaging laws applied to album titles, this would have to be renamed Down.

U.K. based Gearbox, best known for its restored vintage all-tubed Westrex mastering system (Haeco Scully lathe with Westrex RA1700 series amps, Westrex 3DIIA cutting head and Telefunken U73B tube limiter) and eclectic all-analog vinyl record catalog recently entered the hardware business with this cool “compact disc” player it calls “The Gearbox Automatic” though it’s a manual player.

With all due respect to Gem Dandy’s new PolyTable Signature “layer cake” of a “two tiered” turntable, the bigger news here is the Sorane TA-1L tonearm George Merrill chose to package with his new turntable. Why is the Sorane news? Because it’s the possible successor to now defunct Jelco. But first, the new $2995 (not including arm) turntable, which, for sure, is also news.

Johnny Shines labored long and unfairly in the shadow of Robert Johnson, who he'd met and traveled with briefly, shortly before the blues legend's death. Like Johnson, Shines was a genuine country-bred Delta bluesman. Even when he moved to the city, he retained his rural sound.
