To say the Swiss-made Audio Consulting turntable, phono preamplifier and passive volume control are unusual looking is an understatement!

I've chosen to limit coverage to Cap Fest analog gear, but there was plenty of good sound at the show and plenty of awful sound too. I'll skip the awful and the great, making an exception for the Odyssey Audio room. The gentleman responsible, Klaus Bunge, is an industry veteran I've known for decades. He helped establish in America, the high price, high performance Symphonic Line brand.

Modern Jazz Quartet fans will find this Milt Jackson solo outing surprising and in a sense liberating. While the vibraharpist remains his usual cool, resilient self, the addition of Kenny Dorham on trumpet and Jimmy Heath (brother of MJQ bassist Percy) on tenor sax gives the outing a bit more swagger and drive compared to the MJQ’s usual studiousness.

I Am Sorry I Missed You, Don Fremer!

Allow me to clarify the greeting: With a tip of the hat to the Virgil Sollozzo character – “If you consider $5,000 speaker cables…spare wire…te salud, Don Fremer!”

First, let me say, I genuinely enjoy your reviews. You have a splendid way of characterizing the intricacies of the exceedingly complex physical forms and functions of the analog hardware you are blessed (or cursed) to review. Keep up the stellar work.

Cleveland, Ohio based Gotta Groove Records today announced an ownership change, but it shouldn't change how the company does business, which is very successfully, or how it presses records, which is very well.
