Acoustic Sounds Announces New Prestige Vinyl Reissue Series and a Perennial Favorite Reissued in an Enhanced Edition

Do I even have to tell you what album this is? Okay, I guess I do. It's Dave Brubeck's "time travel" masterpiece Time Out of course, about to be reissued by Acoustic Sounds as a double 45rpm edition that includes deluxe gatefold packaging

. Acoustic Sounds' Chad Kassem showed me the jacket and it's a beauty! The colorful iconic cover art has never looked so vibrant and inside are fantastic black and white images shot during the recording session at Columbia's famous 30th Street Studios

. No doubt some will whine about yet another reissue of a reissue, but the Classic Records edition is long out of print and a new generation of vinyl fanatics deserve to hear this album in all of its analog glories cut from the original 3 track master tape.

Kassem also announced an ambitious new program of Prestige reissues, 25 in mono and 25 in stereo. The 25 mono titles will be pressed as "flat profile" 200 gram records with no lips and the "deep groove" record label just as on the original collectible pressings, packed in the highest quality jackets.

Isn't it called "Time Out"? Take Five is the last cut on the first side.

Duh! Of course. I posted that at 2AM during the Newport Beach HiFi Show. My bad.

Looks like the jackets will be similar in quality to the Music Matters releases. And I'm sure the sound quality will be, too. I'd buy many of these, if they were just cheaper...

Think how I felt after years of thinking the name of this album was " Time Out " Thanks for setting  me straight! JUST KIDDING! Got the Classic edition and would I buy a 45rpm edition that probbly sounds even better that my Classic of this old war horse? You Bet! Thanks for reminding me I have this one as I was inspired to give it a listen as I typed this note. Keep up the good work! (P.S. Only minorly Flawed.)

Looking forward to the Prestige issues, got my old (low) number from the Fantasy/Blue Note/ Verve/... and ready to go.

Just a note, they are being produced at 33 1/3. Earlier comments of 45 RPM were mistaken.

Too bad Rudy Van Gelder's, Yusef Lateef -EASTERN SOUNDS was not chosen.

One of my all time fav's on Prestige.

Happy Listening!

There are two problems with this reissue. This album has been released and re-released and re-re-released so many times it's become boring to even announce yet anther re-re-re-re-release. But somehow all these companies don't understand how to bring some excietment to their reissue of this album by using the original stereo mixes. Why do we always remixed versions? I want to hear what this album sounded like when it was originaly released in 1959.

The second problem is the sound. This version is quite thin and bright. It lacks weight. The SACD has the same thinness.

But other than that, Mrs. Lincoln...

From where did you "learn" that this was a remix? Otherwise, what's old and boring to you can often be new and exciting to others.
