According to Pro-Ject founder Hans Lichtenegger, last year was Pro-Ject's best ever and by a wide margin. That has allowed him to update and upgrade much of the line, including the popular Essential turntable. Replacing the something "tweaky" Unipivot arm is the Pro-Ject 8.6 arm.

The cartridge has been upgraded too, from the Ortofon OM3E to the OM5E. The price of the 'table with cartridge remains $299.
