In an official report released today, March 9, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) confirmed what many of us already knew — namely, that LPs outsold CDs in 2022. The RIAA further clarified this is the first time that milestone has occurred since 1987. Richard Thompson's new album Electric due out February 5th was recorded analog at Buddy Miller's Nashville home studio, according to Mr. Thompson in a short interview published in a Florida newspaper. (Thanks to Home Theater's other MF Mark Fleischmann, for sending to me the URL of the interview).

The new Rick Rubin produced Red Hot Chili Peppers album Unlimited Love was recorded to analog tape and mixed to analog tape and it sounds so—at least based on streaming where the "analog goodness" shines through. A month long series of "Broken Records" Pushkin Shows covering the release began last Friday.

A pin-up cover girl in 1972? Slicked back greaser hair, and while you’re at it an album jacket clothes, make-up and hair credit? Maybe you weren’t around for it in 1972 but back then this—not long hair, sandals, checked flannel shirts and bell-bottom jeans— was outrageous. Those were so yesterday-hippie.
