Music Matters, the jazz reissue label best known for its beautifully packaged double 45rpm stereo jazz reissues cut by Kevin Gray from original analog master tapes recently announced a new 33 1/3 Blue Note series. While this may sound like "old news" to some, please listen up!

The Modern Jazz Quartet would never have been signed to Blue Note. The group’s Bach-influenced button-down counterpoint was a bad fit with Blue Note’s gospel and blues influenced soul-jazz.

While this much-loved Blue Note lists Adderley as the group leader, this pick-up session—recorded in 1958, just before Kind of Blue—sounds, for the most part, as if Miles Davis is in control and was labeled as an Adderley session due to contractual issues.

Miles Davis’s major label debut, recorded with his quintet in the fall of 1955 and late summer of 1956 while he was still under Prestige contract and released early in 1957, was not particularly well-received at the time, though it has grown considerably in stature since then.

“Strange Days” was the perfect album for its time. For music lovers at a time when records were the main means by which a generation communicated with its culture, the title, cover art, music and sound resonated with the meaning of the fall of 1967 (even though the album was recorded the previous spring at L.A.’s Sunset Sound).

Back in 1994 my voice made a "guest appearance" on "Late Night With David Letterman". It was a running gag throughout the show. Tonight is the last show so now's the time to tell the story.

Credit The In Groove's Mike Esposito. To his fans he can do no wrong. Clearly he's got a great record store and he usually provides in his videos useful information. To his fans, for daring to criticize him I am a "con man" (in the words of one of them) and I owe him "an apology". For what, I'm not sure, but for them he owes none to The Electric Recording Company though his seriously flawed video trashing of the company I think requires an apology.

At a garage sale over the summer I found a copy of Dennis Wilson's chronically under appreciated Pacific Ocean Blue (PZ 34354) album originally released on the CBS distributed Caribou label. I reviewed the Sundazed reissue on musicangle.com

It was a hectic show for me. I had agreed to do two events each Friday and Saturday in conjunction with Colleen Murphy's Classic Album Sundays in a room featuring a Spiral Groove SG 1.1 turntable and Centroid arm, VTL Reference electronics including a pair of big Siegfried mono blocks and a pair of Wilson Audio Specialties MAXX 3 loudspeakers.
