Back in March while out in Los Angeles to help with the Audio Fidelity TRON reissue, I followed up on Al Schmitt's invitation to visit him at Capitol Studios where he was working on a still secret all-analog production. Schmitt took me on a tour of Capitol 's famous studios—the site of so much recorded history—and I captured most of it on video.

The outpouring of offers to help Eric Leefe move beyond the "room filling" sound of the Wave radio has been overwhelming, both in the comments beneath the story and in emails.

Thanks to all who downloaded and listened to the same track played using 8 different mats. That's a great deal of heavy lifting, hopefully made somewhat lighter by Mike Valentine's excellent Decca tree recording of a nimble performance of Vivaldi's "Concerto For 2 Mandolins". I hope you downloaded and enjoyed the "gift" track too.

Michael Fremer  |  Jul 18, 2014  |  2 comments readers requested we post the "rebook" version of the Vivaldi Mandolin piece so there's a reference at the same sampling and bit rate as the "needle drops".

Thanks to an reader's excellent suggestion, the blind mat test will include the original 96/24 file from which the Chasing the Dragon LP was cut. Recording engineer and label owner Mike Valentine was kind enough to send the original file of the Vivaldi "Concerto For Two Mandolins" that was used for the mat recordings.
