Digging Into the Liturgy of the Phonograph's First Eleven Years

We make a seasonal exception to our vinyl-only review policy and publish Tristram Lozaw's review of the double Grammy Nominated (Best Historical Album and Best Album Notes) three CD plus harcover book set Waxing the Gospel: Mass Evangelism and the Phonograph, 1890-1900.

I first met Mr. Lozaw in the 1970s when the Hi-Fi store for which I was producing radio commercials decided to run a radio commercial contest and Mr. Lozaw's submission won.Ed.

Soundmatters' "Moment" Is A Mini Bluetooth Speaker Sensation

True that Bluetooth speakers are not AnalogPlanet's beat, but over the past few years I've found these devices super-useful for when I jog, or when traveling or just sitting outside during the summer. Longtime AnalogPlanet readers know that for large box Bluetooth speakers I like the ones from Riva Audio, but even the smaller of the two is too large for taking on a jog or a hike. For that I've used the Soundmatters FoxL , which is a flat-out amazing sounding tiny stereo speaker that uses as a "passive radiator" its flat battery encased in a rubber surround.

"A Capitol Christmas" Double LP From the Vaults Worth Owning

Producer/annotator Jay Landers has pulled from Capitol's rich vaults some of the label's best Christmas music that the label has issued as a double LP set complete with excellent liner notes (they are back.

Of course it opens with Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas to You)" written by Mel Tormé and R. Wells but it then goes on to pull many less well-known tunes including Julie London's "I'd Like You For Christmas" (feeling's mutual), June Christy's "The Merriest", Bing Crosby's "Do You Hear What I Hear?" and Dean Martin's "Winter Wonderland".
