Day one High End Munich 2018 was as new analog gear-packed as you would hope it might be. The image at the top is of a new Kuzma turntable priced at around $8000 dollars (don't hold me to that amount) that uses the same drive system as the far more expensive Stabi M that I reviewed last year in Stereophile. The differences are explained by Franc Kuzma in the approximately hour and a half video covering all of day one's coverage.

Day two at High End Munich 2019 brought consumer crowds to the show, adding excitement and a great deal of noise. The video highlights many more new turntables, phono preamps and record cleaning devices and even one useful digital product for those who also play SACDs, DVD-As and Blu-ray music discs.

ADDITIONAL NOTE: MY APPEAL WAS REJECTED. THEREFORE, BECAUSE THERE'S 11 SECONDS OF AC/DC PLAYING ON A TURNTABLE IN A ROOM, IF I DO NOT REMOVE THE 11 SECONDS OF THAT MUSIC, THE VIDEO WILL BE BLOCKED. I'M IN THE PROCESS OF DOING THAT, BUT WHAT A LAME MOVE BY SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT! Note:This video was initially blocked by a company called SME, which has nothing whatsoever to do with the turntable and tone arm company SME. This SME is a music publisher related company that trolls the Internet looking for horrible transgressions such as on this video that uses 11.2 seconds of AC/DC's "You Shook Me All Night Long", which was playing on a turntable in a room I visited at High End Munich. The idiocy of this blockage, especially based on 11.2 seconds of incidental background music at a hi-fi show that encourages people to purchase physical media, should be self-evident but as is usual in the music business, an ax is used here instead of a scalpel. Idiots! I am still overseas, but have been told it's been restored while I appeal the copyright strike.

. With just about every new turntable at High End Munich covered, Days 3 and 4 were times to slow down, visit more rooms and have a few record cleaning adventures. Coverage is not finished though. There will be another video coming that you might enjoy.

High End Munich 2021 Is Officially "On"!

The High End Society, which runs High End Munich announced today that it plans on a 2021 show at the MOC venue in which it has been held for many years after moving from the Kempinski Hotel in Frankfurt.

Show dates are May 13-16th, 10AM-6PM Thursday, Friday and Saturday the 13th, 14th and 15th and 10-4PM on Sunday the 16th.

The parallel event, the IPS – International Parts + Supply, is also postponed

The HIGH END 2021 trade show, planned to take place in Munich from September 9 to 12, 2021, has now been moved to May 2022 due to the ongoing impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The HIGH END SOCIETY Service GmbH reached this decision after a reassessment of the current situation and in close cooperation with the Board of the HIGH END SOCIETY e.V.

One person can't possibly visit every room at a convention center show as large as High End Munich—even if your sole goal is to cover analog products. Maybe that was possible a decade ago but now? No way! You must make editorial decisions and pass by some rooms. For instance, having given Avantgarde Acoustics and its new powered G3 iTRON loudspeaker system full coverage at AXPONA, I decided I could skip their Munich room. Little did I know that SME would be demonstrating its new Model 60 in the Avantgarde Acoustics room, so the Model 60 is not covered here. However, I did visit the factory for a semi-exclusive look so if you've not seen the coverage, click on the hyperlink.

Good news for the HIGH END 2021: the audio show, which was planned to take place in mid-May, has now been moved to the late summer, namely from 9th to 12th September 2021. By choosing these later dates, the organiser of the event, the HIGH END SOCIETY SERVICE GmbH, is taking a huge step towards a successful relaunch of the trade show and also increasing planning reliability for all parties involved.

Though AnalogPlanet reviewed the low output $750 Hana SL cartridge back in 2017 in a “shootout” with the $999 Ortofon Quintet Black S, we’re kind of “late to the fair” on these two newer Hana models, in part because they’ve been reviewed by others in Stereophile (and of course elsewhere), where I mostly (but not exclusively!) cover the top end of the high performance market.
