Lyra Delos Phono Cartridge From Music Direct Sweepstakes

Register to win a Lyra Delos Phono Cartridge From Music Direct (MSRP $1,650) we are giving away.

According to Music Direct:

The new design of the Lyra Delos allows the coils of the cartridge to stay aligned with the magnetic circuit while the tracking force is applied. What does this mean? Well, in a nutshell, it means Lyra head designer Jonathan Carr has discovered a way to keep the angles in perfect alignment at all times. This allows the Delos to track better; clearly improving sound quality, particularly low-level resolution, dynamic range, transient impact, and immediacy. It delivers all the accuracy, detail and overall musicality all analog lovers crave.

Keeping the proper angular alignment prevents the formation of any strong and directional flux that could otherwise flow constantly from the magnetic circuit into the signal core, and enables the Delos' core to move with equal ease in all directions, for optimal performance.

The Delos also has a Microridge stylus on a boron cantilever for outstanding tracking, a non-parallel solid machined metal body for low resonances, and 6-N high-purity copper coils and nude construction for greater clarity. The result is clearly improved sound quality, particularly resolution, tracking ability, dynamic range, transient impact and immediacy.

This is no subtle advance, and one you’ll soon see creeping its way up into the more expensive Lyra line. Hear for yourself how a newer, better angle on LP reproduction can sound.

Is that the sound of a Lyra I hear? Sure hope so!!!

smittyman's picture

I sincerely hope the winner doesn't die trying to use this cartridge.  Either they really shouldn't be running a record player or the cartridge has some serious design issues.wink

This would be soooo nice. Great site thank you!

I just became aware of this fab site in the August issue of Stereophile and am overjoyed about it. We are limited out here on the rocks and rely on these pages for advise. Please keep it up! As for the Lyra, I'll take two!!!!! I dream of such machines all day on the beach and covet all night in the listening room. Is that a sin?!?!

I've been wanting to compare one against my Ortofon Jubilee. Doubtful I would get rid of the Jubilee it's great. But, with a free Lyra I could buy a second arm wand for my scout and use them both.

... to win the Lyra. I've been eyeing it for a while now!

Dom Pascucci's picture

I really need this, please.

I've read many excellent reviews of Lyra cartridges, but have never heard one.  Winning this prize would certainly solve that dilemma!!

Thanks for all the great information on the site!

My Helikon is getting a little long in the tooth.  Crossing my fingers!

My first entry level cartridge was and still in a Ortofon 2M Blue.  I purchased it and mounted on my VPI Scout II with upgraded 10.5 SE tonearm and Black Kinght platter.  This is the first turntable I have purchased since I was 13 years old, and that turntable was a B&O RX-2, not bad looking, but that's about all it did, look good.  The VPI is a perfect fit for me since it sounds really nice and also is highly "tweakable".  I have spent hour upon hours adjusting azimuth, VTA, and A/S.  As much as I've wated to purchase a more expensive cartridge, I found it really important to work with and learn on a less expensive unit allowing for mistakes that are not too costly.  At this point I would love to mount this Lyra!  For the newbies out there, take your time, be patient, and research until your hearts content.  It will provide benefit in the end, I promise!

Regards,

David

Great idea for a contest.

I absolutely loved letting some of younger family members hear for the first time, just how good records can sound. It put a smile on my face and brought joy to my heart. Long live vinyl!!

vinylnut's picture

I had a chance to hear a Lyra Dorian last year. Absolutely amazing! It would be a dream come true to own a new Delos.

Thanks!

lensimons's picture

I'm pretty sure it would sound great in my system!

Mikey rules! I've been an analog junkie since I first read his first column in Stereophile.

Bruce K. Carter's picture

I am sure it sounds as good as it looks.

hrlaser's picture

"Lyra Delos" sounds like the name of a Greek god from a Ray Harryhausen movie ;-)

I've never owned a cartridge that cost more than about $150.00.. I can't even imagine how this one would sound.. I have some Vintage MFSL vinyl that I'd love to be able to play with a cartridge of this stratospheric caliber..

Thanks for the opportunity..

Since I've been a diehard vinyl junkie going on 40 years now, winning the Lyra Delos would certainly inspire me to dig through my record collection... and then buy lots of new records!

steviec's picture

...would still love to have one of these!!!

Bajaed's picture

Everything I've read about the Delos makes me think it's exactly what I'm looking for. Great detail without sounding analytical. Musicality and fullness. A great tracker.

I've spent the last two years building a system, the Lyra Delos would be the crowning jewel in my setup.

prologic's picture

This would be a nice pairing with a VPI Classic I'm lusting for

Omarrichpat's picture

It would be a joy to just hear what it would sound in my system

PedroNW's picture

I have a bunch of stuff that I had planned to sell so I can buy a Lyra Delos, winning one would be an amazing bit of luck. I guess an upgrade in my phono pre amp is what I would buy if I was to win. Suppose I better get going on selling so I can buy the cartridge as winning a prize isn't the type of luck I have,

Otisbluey's picture

Just in time....right??

Great cartridge, would love to win.  Thanks

looking forward to trying a lyra!

uru975's picture

It's a nice easy way to try out a great cartridge so let this be the winning entry.

anomaly7's picture

Wow, it's beautiful, and it would go well with my audio system.

I learned my lesson on the last contest. Enter only once, even if the prize changes, as did the turntable offer, which caused me to exclaim how much nicer the prize looked, and negated my entry. So, that's all I gotta say-

Thanks for entertaining us with these prizes Michael-

Timo's picture

I REALLY need a new cartridge as you can see in my subject line that I own a pretty old one; however, not used a ton or abused just worn out and needs replacement!

abinder7's picture

Amazing how analog technology just physically appears more stunning than most digital devices! (arguably of course)

Love the lyra

yokerone's picture

From what I've read, Lyra cartridges are well-crafted. This model looks exciting!

csmalak's picture

Given that I destroyed the cantilever on my Benz Micro Glider SL a few months ago and Benz is quoting up to a year for a Factory Rebuild on the cart, I would love to win the Delos!! Thanks.

audiofool's picture

I was foolish enough (hence the name "audiofool") to bring out my record player, two years after hiding it when my son became old enough to walk/reach it. I thought I could teach him to leave it alone, now that he is three years old. Well, after a couple of weeks, he could no longer resist and he banged up my Shure V15VxMR cartridge pretty good. No way of getting a replacement stylus for that antique. This was my third and last stylus, having stocked up on them when I bought the cartridge eight years ago.

I hope to win this Lyra and, if I do, I will be purchasing a wall-mount TT shelf to keep little hands off toys that they should not be playing with. I miss listening to my records!

dartmouth90's picture

I can't believe your post -- I was distraught earlier this week when I was installing a V15VxMR that I had been saving for years one of the screw holes in the aluminum portion on top snapped off. Would you be interested in selling that portion of the V15 you have? My stylus assembly is just fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated, dartmouth90@yahoo.com.

Thanks!

SunRa2000's picture

I sure would like to win this cartridge.

dartmouth90's picture

Broke off part of the aluminum screw mount on a Shure V15VxMR this week that I've been saving for years. Needless to say I was distraught as the cartridge was brand new and I won't get to listen to it now. Winning the Delos would sure ease the pain of losing the V15VxMR.

I hope I win. It'll be a first time, ever

Norfolkbarry's picture

Winning a new Delos would be a nice replacment for my aging Helikon. The cantilever has slowly bent to the left over time, which makes it hard to align properly on my Graham 2.2. I have considered having the cantilever & stylus replaced but have been unsuccesful at my contact attempts with Lyra or their new distrubutor.

Wish me luck!

I would love to win this as I bent the cantilever on my main cart. Now using my Denon backup to get by for now.

This would be a nice win!
