You CANNOT Attend the New York or Los Angeles Beatles Mono Box Launch

The Beatles in Mono box launches Tuesday, September 9th. UMe is sponsoring events on both coasts and you cannot sign up to possibly attend because it has already SOLD OUT.

The first is Monday, September 8th in New York City at Electric Lady Studios and the second is Wednesday, September 10th in Los Angeles at The Grammy Museum. Click on the hyperlinks to sign up. Act fast, space is limited.

Recording engineer Ken Scott (Beatles, Bowie, Procol Harum) and reissue producer Steve Berkowitz will be on hand.

The playback systems will be outstanding. Analogplanet.com editor Michael Fremer was put in charge of system procurement.

Nice gig on 'system procurement.' Back in the day, there were people in charge of all kinds of procurement for bands. At least this one's legal. :)

Maybe. You don't all of the recommended "components". After all, part of the mandate is that "a splendid time is guaranteed for all."

I got my RSVP for the Los Angeles event in before it closed. They said they will let me know later if I can go. They must be doing a lottery for available seats. Anyway, I am hoping to attend. Next week is going to be outstanding!

It's possible I will only use only my entrance into the Grammy Museum on Wed. I've had two people cancel on me already.

If I don't have anyone confirm that they are going by the morning you can meet me outside and we can go in together with my confirmation.

McFaden's picture

That would be amazing. Well now I am really hoping you can't find someone. Let me know tomorrow and I'll be there with bells on.

Thank you so much.

I'll get back to you tomorrow by 1 pm, if not sooner.

Your odds of going are pretty good.

Looks like I'm not going to be able to make it tonight myself, but I'm thinking I can forward you my confirmation and I don't see why you wouldn't be able to you.

I don't know if you want to check with the Grammy Museum and see if that can be done.

If you give me your email all forward you my confirmation.

But that sounds so great! My wife will be very pleased. If you email it over to me I'll call them and take care of the transfer. My email is mcfaden1 (at) icloud (dot) com.

Thank you so much Lisa. I'll let you know how it is.

Check your email.

With limited attendance it would be great if someone shot video of the event for the rest of us poor slobs with our noses pressed up against the glass. ;>0

We can always count on you Mr. Fremer. Pithy comments are sure to flow.

As "The Great One" might have said, "How sweet it is!" I'd imagine he wasn't a Fabs fan, though.

As mentioned above they said they would let me know if I am one of the few the proud. Not holding my breath but would be nice.

...for anyone living in one of the "flyover" states.

Do the organizers of such "limited edition" events ever stop to consider that they may be generating more bad PR than good by alienating the majority of customers who have no opportunity to attend them?

JC1957's picture

Agreed. Some of us don't have a hope in hell as much as we'd like to attend. While I realize they can't visit every pigsnuckle town USA, it would sure be nice for some others to attend these events.

I had the pleasure of attending the abbey road mono box launch last night and meeting shaun magee, ken scott and liam watson! play back was in room 2 of abbey road! I was impressed with most of what i heard, helter skelter was incredibly full, dynamic, with lots of bass! I was a little worried about these being bass shy.. but most of the tracks i heard delivered.. only problem is the vocals are predominately loud! they jump out more so on the earlier recordings.. then again thats how they were mixed for cheap dansettes.. I had a geek chat with shaun afterwards, to find out the process on the remastering job! pleased to hear he took the 'less is more approach'! Great sound system and some lovely wine.. abbey road and universal put on a great show!

So angry, was holding out hope I would get called.

Same here, ferk. I was looking forward to it. Well it looks like I will be hosting my own private listening party, pants optional.

Jim Tavegia's picture

Black tie, but pants optional?

I also seemed to have made it "under the wire" for the NYC listening event, but received an email yesterday advising me that I didn't make the cut. Ah, well...

I'm having a private listening party Friday night and all guests WILL be required to wear pants; it's just a bunch of old guys like me attending.

I received my confirmation for the Grammy Museum on Wednesday. Trying to see if there are any reviews from NY on Monday, but can't find anything. Anyone know of anyone that got in and what they had to say about it? Just curious are they supposed to be playing a full album or select songs from their collection?

For all of you who have given up your turntable. Get one now!

Was mastered in stereo but is there going to be any attempt to give it a better treatment, similar to these mono reissues? I picked up the digital stereo sourced vinyl reissue from a few years ago and found it disappointing.

jakobian's picture

The question was to be. I can't find anything in the blogs or anywhere else that speaks to the idea of how well the Beatles were recorded and pressed ( some great,UK,Japan,Germany and Italy ) break down album by album, stereo and mono, which pressing, which country .
This is always good for a debate. The Beatles if you will recall were a period group of musicians and that dictates how they were recorded ,mixed and pressed. Abbey Road being the only crossover ... I'm going to hound Mikey in this issue until I get a response .
One side note to tell you where I'm coming from. I love Rubber Soul UK first stereo pressing on Parlophone . Totally isolated tracks. Most people find it distracting,I found it to be akin to a fly on the wall,or possibly a roach on the wall given the time period.
