A shared love of music especially when engraved in vinyl forged a friendship between Michael Fremer and Malachi Lui. Later they found out both also love to cook and the youngster has a sophisticated palate (not surprising). So they decided to cook something together when Malachi next visited, which was last week.

Here's a one camera edited video of the two cooking, talking music, records and sound. Oh, yes, and some politics to which some may object.

Day one at AXPONA 2017 has come and gone. The show was reasonably well-attended for a Friday, which usually draws retirees, the independently wealthy, vacationers and people calling into work sick.

At AXPONA 2014 CoolCleveland.com's Thomas Mulready interviewed me following a turntable set-up seminar. This year he returned and asked me to conduct an on-camera CD vs. vinyl "shootout" using Roxy Music's Avalon as the test subject.

We strive to be factually correct but occasionally make a mistake. A Sundazed representative called to correct a major error and rather than correct it in a tiny box placed inconspicuously on this website, we're putting it here.

Last night I spoke with an EMI executive about the upcoming Beatles Box Set. While he is setting up an interview with Abbey Road mastering engineer Sean Magee that will have to wait until Magee is "off shift," he did provide some useful information.

Elvis Costello took a quantum songwriting leap on his third album and with a generous six weeks in the studio following a world tour with new songs written, came up with intricate arrangements and sonically sophisticated production that while complex, was not detrimental to the intense propulsion of the music.

Oops. I mistakenly called this Basie Jam in the March Stereophile's "In Heavy Rotation" listing. How's that? This was sent to me, along with others in the series, as test pressings in plain white jackets. Of course I have written often about the original Pablo issue of this monster of a record, so I have no excuses. Anyway, Basie Jam, another Pablo great, has yet to be issued at 45 rpm, so many of you have figured out my mistake and sent me e-mails about it. Sorry.

With his influences clearly imprinted on his creative sleeve, Adam Duritz and friends created in 1993 one of the last great analog rock recordings. Duritz understood that sound mattered as did producer T-Bone Burnett who continues to treasure the basic sense even when working with diminished budgets.
