Discogs Invites Us to Dis/Connect From the Digital World and Spin Vinyl All Day Instead on October 18

Happy Audiophile Day, everyone! Yesterday, I pre-celebrated this most important event by buying waaaay more vinyl than I probably should have, but it’s all in the name of “analog research.” I know many of you can relate to that, er, rationalization.

Anyway, in recent years, we’ve taken to celebrating Audiophile Day each October 2 by posting stories about cool new turntables (like we did here, about Reed’s Muse 3A table, in 2023) and reviewing top-tier 200g vinyl reissues (like we did here, about The Doors’ fabulous L.A. Woman UHQR edition, in 2024) — but this year, we want to take this day to pre-fete an important, upcoming “audiophile holiday,” if you will.

To that end, we’re pleased to share the news that Discogs, our favorite record collecting and cataloging platform, has just announced the launch of what they’re calling Dis/Connect. In their words, Dis/Connect is “a global day to unplug from digital distractions and reconnect with the joy of listening to music. On Saturday, October 18, 2025, music lovers everywhere are invited to silence the scroll, skip the stream, and give their full attention to the ritual of listening to records.” Sounds like a great idea to us!

Continuing with Discogs’ specific parlance about the day: Dis/Connect is a global, community-driven celebration that anyone can join, from anywhere in the world. Whether you’re an artist, label, hi-fi bar, record store, or record collector, the invitation is the same: step away from screens — “even from Discogs,” they suggest! — and give yourself over fully to music.

“In a world of constant distraction,” Discogs continues, “Dis/Connect asks music fans to choose connection over consumption. Some may host a listening party with friends, while others may spin records alone at home. Participants are encouraged to rediscover their collections, play albums from start to finish, or curate a vibe inspired by mood, genre, or decade.” Whatever way any of us choose to experience the day, “Dis/Connect is all about creating space for real-world connection and honoring music in its purest form,” points out the platform.

“Imagine a moment where collectors everywhere log off, grab some records, and just listen,” says Kevin Lewandowski, Discogs’ Founder and CEO, in the company’s official press statement about Dis/Connect. “That’s a powerful moment to share with others who love music as much as we do, whether you’re spinning alone or with friends.”

Adds Jeffrey Smith, Vice President of Marketing at Discogs, “In a world drowning in noise, Dis/Connect feels like an act of rebellion. We’re asking people to step away from their screens, even from Discogs, to remember that feeling of joy that comes from real connection. From community. From the music that makes you feel alive.”

Again, Dis/Connect sounds like a truly wonderful idea to us here at AP. Go here to access the official invitation (which is also replicated visually above). You’re also welcome to share this invite with all your fellow analog audiophiles and LP listeners alike.

Discogs puts the basic instructions for Dis/Connect this way: “Play records. Revisit old favorites, dig deep into your collection, or drop the needle on something new. Reflect, then share. If you’d like, post about your experience the next day, and tag @discogs.” Hear, hear.

Mark your calendars now for Dis/Connect on October 18 — and hopefully, it will garner enough interest and participation to warrant being made an annual event for the third Saturday of every October moving forward.

And, with that final positing, let me a) once again say happy Audiophile Day to one and all, b) enjoy the Dis/Connect event when we collectively get there, and c), as always — happy spinning!!
