Origin Live Gravity Two Record Weight
“You put the load right on me.” That’s a line from The Band’s seminal 1968 song “The Weight,” which never actually mentions its title by name in the lyrics — but that above-noted key phrase, which serves as the linchpin line of its chorus, could also be the first thought an LP has the moment you put a record weight on top of it for stabilization purposes. (Go with me on this one, folks, and don’t just call me Crazy Chester.) One such manufacturer, Origin Live, have just literally dropped their own next record weight, rightly dubbed the Gravity Two.
According to Origin Live, the Gravity Two is a “complete ground-up redesign” of their rightly acclaimed Gravity One record weight. Compatible with all turntables, the Gravity Two is said to deliver superior bass extension, instrument separation, and enriched tonality and clarity in the mid-band — all while maintaining an ultra-low mass of just 70g.
The idea for the Gravity Two is fairly straightforward, according to the British manufacturer. It’s intended to “enhance the positive attributes” of the Gravity One at the same price point, while also achieving the aforementioned bass extension that can be associated with high-mass weights without compromising mid-band detail or top-end openness, the latter two attributes of which said high-mass weights have been known to do.
Among the Gravity Two’s key features include an outer cover designed for optimal damping that’s made from an anti-resonant polymer — which, as Origin Live points out, “for once, isn’t Delrin.” Structural ridges enhance the rigidity of the weight’s casework, while the G-Two’s tuned assembly is said to absorb vibrational energy pumped into a record by the stylus by “dissipating it through the vibrational interference of lightweight metallic parts with precision-cut profiles, combined with layers of wood, composites, and polymers.”
Mark Baker, founder of Origin Live, further clarified in a press statement that the idea behind the original Gravity One was to “challenge the market norm where most record weights boost bass at the expense of mid-band detail and top-end openness.” In that same statement, Baker further noted that “the Gravity Two elevates this foundation, adding further bass extension, soundstage control, and a richer mid-band. It’s been incredibly rewarding to uncover even more depth in vinyl playback during development.”
The Gravity Two boasts dimensions of 70 x 40mm (diameter x height), and it fits spindles 0 to 35mm in height. Available now, the G-Two comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee, “for complete satisfaction.”
Finally, the SRP for the Gravity Two record weight is £230.
