Rhino Announces Record Store Day Limited Edition Releases (Revised With New Information)

Record Store Day is April 20th and Rhino will be ready with its biggest limited edition release yet. Included are The Band's 3 LP set The Last Waltz, a limited to 5000 copies $49.98 edition and the rare mono edition of Van Dyke Parks' epic Song Cycle that mostly went to radio stations for some odd reason. It had less than zero chance of being played on any radio station! It probably has less than zero chances of selling out the allocated 2500 copies but I hope it does.

The mono edition is certainly interesting, especially for those (few) familiar with the expansive stereo version, but what we really need is a great stereo AAA reissue.

There are many 7" limited edition singles probably not of much interest to analogplanet readers but other LPs include The Cure's Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me on double red vinyl limited to 3500 copies ($32.98) a Grateful Dead compilation Rare Cuts & Oddities 1966 a double LP set limited to 6600 copies ($34.98) and The Notorious B.I.G.'s Ready to Die pressed on double cracker vinyl and limited to 3000 copies ($29.98).

Chris Bellman cut Song Cycle and The Last Waltz from the analog master tapes. In fact, I've been told that Van Dyke Parks himself was present at the Song Cycle mastering session.
