STAX Celebrates 60 Years With Limited Edition 7" Singles Box Set

Craft Recordings (a Concord Records imprint), which recently issued the 3 LP Thelonious Monk With John Coltrane Complete 1957 Riverside Recordings just announced the Stax 7 Box Set, the first release in a year long celebration of the storied label's 60th anniversary.

BBC DJ Richard Searling who, according to the press release for the set was a "driving force" in the U.K.'s 1970's era "Northern Soul scene curated the fourteen song seven 45rpm singles set—an interesting choice given the Memphis-based label's origins.

Searling's choices range from biggies like Carla Thomas and Johnnie Taylor to one-hit-wonders like Roz Ryan and Joni Wilson—some of which turned out to be more popular and better known in the U.K. than in America, which of course explains Searling's involvement in the project.

They were on the Volt label...a Stax off-shoot, I think.

So much vinyl...
So little analogue.

What was it,
Never, in the history of recording,
was so much digital,
passed off as analogue.
