Blame It On the Lampcord Department

I just received this email that I thought I'd share with you:

August 12th is Vinyl Record Day

I don't know who is behind this, or its significance but today, August 12th, is "Vinyl Record Day".

Luminous Audio Technology's Remarkable Arion Phono Preamplifier

Much to the probable consternation of Luminous Audio Technology, I’ve sat on this MM/MC preamplifier review for more than six months. I probably could have literally sat on the Luminous Audio Arion too, so solidly is in constructed, but I didn’t.

Ferguslie Park  Reissued by Intervention Records

Long time Gerry Rafferty fans were thrilled for the long-suffering artist when he finally had a hit single under his own name with “Baker Street”, taken from his late ‘70s release City to City.

It’s probably the only #2 song on the Billboard charts to have an eight bar saxophone riff star and provide the memorable hook. “Baker Street” probably would have reached #1 but for Andy Gibb’s “Shadow Dancing”, which took the top spot for the six weeks. “Baker Street” was #2.

Aerial Bounderies   Redefined Acoustic Guitar Playing——Cut From Analog Master Tape!

This Michael Hedges album shook up the guitar playing world in 1984 the way Leo Kottke's 6 and 12 String Guitars had in 1969.

John Fahey had produced the Kottke album, which made sense. Windham Hill's Will Ackerman co-produced this one, which was issued on that label. That made somewhat less sense because this album is hardly "new age" music intended to calm and sooth the minds of post hippie grown-ups, which was most of what Ackerman's label trafficked in.

The Turn  First Pressing Sold Out

Jerome Sabbagh, who's album The Turn was most favorably reviewed on analogplanet, emailed the other day to say that "...the first pressing...is completely sold out everywhere in no small part due to the interest generated by your review.

Is Your Collection Ready For a Dean Martin Record?

Perhaps it's because "Dino" cultivated a less than serious image as a friendly drunk or perhaps it's because of his long running role as Jerry Lewis's "straight man" in the most successful duo in comedy history, or maybe it was his long running "Dean Martin Celebrity Roast" television show.

Whatever it was, Dean Martin (born Dino Paul Crocetti, June 7, 1917) was not taken as seriously as a singer by segments of the public as he should have been. Elvis Presley certainly took him very seriously. If you listen to Elvis you can hear Dean. It was not the other way around.
