LKV Research Launches Value Packed Two Box Made In the U.S.A. Phono 2-SB MM/MC Phono Preamplifier

I was convinced that after Munich I'd have nothing new to report to you from this show. I was wrong. LKV Research, out of New Hampshire debuted at T.H.E. Show Newport 2013 its new two box solid state phono preamplifier.

Chief designer Bill Hutchins walked me through the dual mono, fully balanced design, which uses discrete solid state devices and can produce up to 53dBs of gain in SE and 59dBs in balanced mode.

The 2-SB is a solid value proposition with all of the money put into parts and circuitry. The chassis is "basic black," there are no front panel mounted switches, not a single blue LED in sight and you have to remove the cover to get to the jumpers (the photo omits the power supply box containing among its many parts a hefty American-made toroidal transformer).

But Hutchins will be selling the 2-SB factory-direct for $2500 and this could be a sweet deal if it sounds as good as it looks. I hope to audition one at home soon!
