Rekkord M600 Turntable
As many of you know, Rekkord turntables have been handcrafted in the company’s factory/facility in the Black Forest in Germany for the better part of a half-century. Back in November 2022, Rekkord garnered a new North American distribution deal with VANA, and when we reported on that news here, the intention was to make a combination of fully automatic and manual tables available over the course of the following year-plus. And now, it’s finally time for the Rekkord M600 to stake its claim in the domestic marketplace.
The top-of-the-line Rekkord M600 is built into a massive vibration-damped wood chassis made from a single piece of resonance-dampening MDF. The three-speed table is also equipped with a custom-designed 8.6in aluminum tonearm with pre-adjusted tracking force and anti-skating. This height-adjustable arm features a four-way ball cardan bearing made of solid aluminum blocks and a massless tracking force adjustment. This dynamic system for applying downforce is said to “maintain a consistent vertical tracking force on the stylus.”
The M600’s 5.6lb aluminum platter is precisely billet machined with a 10mm groove holding energy-absorbing thermoplastic (TPE) elastomers to minimize resonances. The platter sits on a brass bearing paired with a Teflon bearing mirror. The internal damping ring is said to “greatly minimize resonance as well as wow and flutter.”
The M600 turntable, which comes in matte black and gloss black options, is available either sans cartridge or fitted with the optional Ortofon Quintet Red moving coil cartridge that features an elliptical diamond.
Other features of the belt-driven M600 table include a regulated DC motor, electronic switching between 33⅓, 45, and 78rpm playback, polished flat belt, dust cover, anti-static felt mat, and phono cable. Wow & flutter is given as 0.05% (DIN), rumble as 48dB, S/N ratio as 72dB, frequency response as 20 to 20,000Hz, weight as 8.3kg (18lb), and dimensions as 440 x 135 x 370mm (w/h/d).
Finally, the Rekkord M600 turntable has four SRP options: a) $1,499 for the matte black finish and no cartridge; b) $1,699 for the gloss black finish and no cartridge; c) $1,699 for the matte black finish and pre-mounted Ortofon Quintet Red cartridge; and d) $1,899 for the gloss black finish and pre-mounted Ortofon Quintet Red cartridge.
