Some Fab Global Beatles Day origin stats now, via the official GBD press release. Global Beatles Day has been celebrated every June 25 since 2009, and it has now been officially recognized by Apple Corps in advance of this year’s annual celebration. Last month, GBD founder Faith Cohen, the private citizen and photographer from Indiana who conceived the idea for this day more than 17 years ago, was contacted by Tom Greene, CEO of Apple Corps Ltd., who thanked her for her efforts over the years and invited her to Liverpool for the occasion this year.
Inspired by a deep appreciation for The Beatles and their extraordinary impact on the world, Faith created Global Beatles Day as a love letter and a heartfelt thank-you to the band. The conceptual holiday honors not only The Beatles’ timeless music, but also the profound cultural transformation they inspired and the enduring ideals of peace, love, unity, and hope that they brought to generations around the globe.
The date, June 25, was chosen to commemorate the historic day in 1967 when The Beatles closed the world’s very first live global satellite broadcast, Our World, with their anthem of universal connection, “All You Need Is Love.” That moment symbolized the power of music to unite people across borders, and it remains one of the band’s most iconic contributions to world culture.
The recognition by The Beatles’ own organization marks the realization of a decades-long dream about which Faith commented, “I am deeply honored and look forward to being in Liverpool on the 25th for this year’s celebration. I’m grateful to Apple Corps, not only for recognizing Global Beatles Day and the invention to Liverpool but for the affirmation of a dream born of gratitude and sustained by a belief in the enduring power of music, specifically The Beatles music, to bring people together for the benefit of kindness, charity, peace, and positive change. These are the very ideals The Beatles championed, and [they] remain as relevant today as ever.”
Over the years, Global Beatles Day celebrations have been embraced by fans worldwide. Now, with the official recognition and support of Apple Corps, Faith’s vision is poised to reach an even larger global audience. The celebration is expected to grow significantly each year, bringing together Beatles fans, communities, charitable initiatives, and acts of kindness inspired by The Beatles’ enduring message.
Looking ahead, 2027 will mark the 60th anniversary of the historic 1967 satellite broadcast, and Apple Corps is already exploring ways to celebrate the milestone on an even greater scale. Nearly two decades after imagining a holiday dedicated to the spirit of The Beatles, Faith is watching that dream become a lasting reality. She looks forward to helping guide the future of Global Beatles Day, and celebrating alongside The Beatles family and fans around the world for many years to come.
In his letter to Faith, Greene wrote, “I have always thought your description of Global Beatles Day as ‘a love letter from the world to The Beatles’ was exactly right. So consider this letter back, from all of us here at Apple Corps, to say thank you for creating this movement, and for the care you have poured into it. More than ever, the message of The Beatles and of ‘All You Need Is Love’ speaks to something vital for community connection, and the power of bringing people together. Our celebration includes physical events for fans to attend, commemorative items they can collect, and, this year, fans all over the world can watch the broadcast of ‘All You Need Is Love’ for free on YouTube, in colour for the first time – the same broadcast that inspired you to make June 25 Global Beatles Day.”
It’s a day that is (wait for it) . . . way beyond compare. Now, go forth, spin your favorite Fabs records, and enjoy! Peace and love, to one and all.
