New York Audio Show Begins

The New York Audio Show opened yesterday with modest press attendance in the morning but good consumer crowds later in the afternoon. I was gratified to meet many people who didn't know who I was. That meant new attendees. One wise-ass, spotting my Beatles tie said "What are you? An investment banker? Those guys usually wear suits and think they are being "outrageous" by wearing colorful ties."

Investment banker. Yea, right.

Colleen Murphy brought to the show her "Classic Album Sundays" listening events in a room filled with VTL electronics, Wilson MAXX 3 loudspeakers and a Spiral Groove SG 1.1 turntable fitted with a Lyra Atlas for stereo records and a Miyajima Labs ZERO for mono.

Colleen presented David Bowie's Hunky Dory and Talking Heads' Remain in Light and I did likewise for Julie London's My Name is Julie. Later in the day I gave a well-attended talk on deciphering lead-out groove matrix information.

More coverage and photos later on this afternoon. The above photo is of a prototype VPI direct drive turntable fitted with a 3D printer produced JMW Memorial tone arm. The 'table is expected to sell for around $20,000. The arm for around $2500.
